powerful conversations on leadership

What makes a good leader? Is leadership a set of traits, attributes, and behaviors? What is Leadership, exactly? How can you become a better leader – at work, home, with myself, as a parent, with my friends, or for myself?

We created this course, Powerful Conversations on Leadership, to answer all those questions and more.

With so much information available on leadership, we took the proven process of Powerful Conversations and focused on you . All great leaders had Character, Self-Awareness, and Hope - how do these show up in you?

character

Abraham Lincoln worked tirelessly to develop the Character he wanted to have. Honesty, integrity, collaboration. These came from relentless study, self-reflection, and dedication to being his best.

Self-awareness

Alan Mullaly, the CEO who famously brought Ford back from the brink of bankruptcy, credits Self-Awareness as “the single greatest opportunity for continued growth, performance and improvement.”

Hope

Harriet Tubman in a 1896 speech talked about Hope – “I was the conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and I can say what most conductors can't say — I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.”

How in the world could you compare yourself to historical figures? Especially leaders we study in schools and have countless amounts of literature on them? You don’t. Instead, you focus on you. You study them. You learn. You apply when you learn.

Why not become a better leader? Because there is cost. Cost of missing a promotion. Cost of adding the wrong things to the world like criticality, anger, frustration, and cynicism. Situations where you could have stepped up and instead held back. No matter if you are just entering the workforce, a middle manager, or a seasoned leader, you can always seek to be a better leader.

One of the best ways to learn leadership is to explore yourself - attitudes, experiences, belief, morals, ethics, and values - to better understand how the world experiences you.

Over 13 weeks, you’ll be presented with plenty of information. Understanding that there is no “done” when it comes to leadership, you’ll develop lifelong skills that will continue your everlasting experience of leadership development.

Leadership is not a title, position, or designation – leadership is a lifelong learning journey.

Similar to learning any master craft, you must put in the time. You can’t learn to play the piano in two days. Instead, it takes a little time each day, over months and even years to become an expert. Some say 10,000 hours is the minimum - if you want a fast hack, then increase that to 15,000 hours. There are no substitutions or shortcuts.
